A Warm Spot project overview

An invitation to gather around warmth.

Along the river in Dongqiao, temperature shapes everyday life. A Warm Spot imagines a floating installation that combines a pool, heated surfaces, and a glowing balloon. It turns a cold waterfront into a place for swimming, gathering, and lingering.

One source of heat. Many ways to feel it.

The proposal draws from ordinary objects: lanterns, hot-water bottles, heaters, and basins. A cascading thermal system directs heat to the pool, railings, and surfaces. Insulation and heat-exchange strategies are proposed to limit unwanted heat transfer into the river.

An everyday object at the scale of a landscape.

A conceptual installation developed in 2021 with guidance from Xiangyu Zhang. The project explores how a shared sensory experience can activate public space.
