A factory can be part of everyday life.
The Apparel Exchange proposes an alternative to the separation of industrial production and neighborhood life. Existing factory buildings are reused and connected by a flexible central pavilion, inviting clothing production, exchange, repair, and public activities to coexist.
A structure for changing uses.
Vertically movable floor panels support different arrangements for workshops, lectures, exhibitions, and performances. Columns combine structural and environmental functions, while new additions work with the existing buildings rather than starting from a blank site.
A more open cycle of production.
Academic project completed in 2022, instructed by Xilin Zhou. The proposal connects building reuse with a longer clothing lifecycle through exchange, repair, and public participation.
